Will the Dyna-Mic work with my harmonicas?
Yes. The Dyna-Mic gasket system is designed to hold 90% of commercially available harmonicas securely while letting you switch models and/or keys quickly.
How Does the Gasket System Work?
Think of the gasket as a custom cushion that locks your harmonica to the mic, creating an airtight seal. This gives you:
- Bigger tone and more bass response.
- Better projection in live settings.
- Freedom to move without sound loss.
Which Gasket/s Should I Use?
Our Standard Gasket is Included with every Dyna-Mic purchase. It magnetically holds all standard-shaped harmonicas such as Hohner Marine Band, Special 20, Rocket, Seydel 1847, Lee Oskar, and many more.
Our Pro Gaskets are built for maximum tone and feedback protection. Each one uses custom laser-cut felt tailored to your exact harmonica model, fitting it like a glove. It’s also the right solution for non-magnetic or uniquely shaped harmonicas in your collection.
Both gaskets snap in and out quickly via magnets, so you can switch harps, or even harps and gaskets on the fly. That flexibility ensures your next performance sounds amazing and runs smoothly.
Please use use our compatibility chart to find your exact models and plan your purchase.
How Do I Hold the Dyna-Mic?
The Dyna-Mic is designed to be held just like an acoustic harmonica, naturally extending the feel of your instrument.
Since your hands aren’t needed to shape the tone, you can hold it in a more relaxed and comfortable manner, just as you would with your harmonica.
How does the Nighthawks' IR hand sensor work?
The infrared (IR) sensor detects the proximity of your hand to the microphone. When your hand is close, the tone will be darker; moving your hand away will brighten the tone. Adjust your hand position to shape the sound as desired.
The effect is created by an analogue filter with a frequency range that is modeled after an acoustic "hand wah". This gives a more natural tone and greater expression than ever before.
*Note: If there is too much external IR interference the tone will sound dark regardless of where your hand is, thus we suggest turning the IR sensor off under direct sunlight or fluorescent lighting with high infrared levels.
Can I use the Nighthawk with harmonica rack?
Yes. The Nighthawk is designed for both handheld and rack use. It works seamlessly with magnetic racks (like the Seydel Gecko) and spring-loaded racks (like the Hohner Flex Rack).
Does It Work with Pedals, Amps, and Recording Gear?
Absolutely. The built-in preamp ensures a strong signal whether you’re running through:
- Guitar amps
- Pedalboards
- Studio interfaces or DAWs
- Live PA systems
What output jack should I order? 1/4inch or 1/8th?
The Dyna-Mic comes standard with a 1/4-inch mono jack that accepts all regular guitar cables.
For added security and a sleeker look, especially useful for rack playing, you can upgrade to a 1/8-inch locking jack and custom cable.
How long does the rechargeable battery last?
After 12 hours of play, the red power LED will slowly flash, signaling a recommended recharge to maintain optimal performance and battery health. However, with a total battery life of up to 76 hours, you'll never have to worry about running out of power during a performance.
How do I charge my Dyna-Mic?
First, turn your Dyna-Mic off. Then connect the included cable to the Dyna-Mic's charging port and plug it into any power source. The LED will switch from red to green when fully charged, with a complete charge taking approximately 1 hour.
My Harmonica Doesn’t Fit the Standard Gasket, What Can I Do?
- For Hohner Deluxe, Crossover, or Thunderbird models: remove the two rear screws to fit the Standard Gasket (this won’t affect playability).
- Or choose a Pro Gasket designed specifically for your models.
Can I use the Dyna-Mic with a chromatic harmonica?
We’re currently developing gaskets specifically for chromatic harmonicas, and they’re expected to be available within the next three months.
In the meantime, if you’d like to order a custom gasket for your chromatic harmonica, please get in touch with us. We’re happy to work with you on a tailored solution until the official gaskets are released.
Can I open up my Nighthawk Model?
No. While you may see screws on the Nighthawk, it is not designed to be opened by users. Attempting to do so can permanently damage the microphone and will void your warranty. The internal components are precision-aligned and cannot be reassembled correctly outside of our facility.
Is my Dyna-Mic covered by a warranty?
Yes, all Dyna-Mics come with a two year warranty on materials and workmanship.
